Types of Traffic Conversion

When you try to get taffic what approach do you use? Shotgun method: pander to a very wide cross section and hope that a certain percentage will convert to sales, the higher the cross section, the higher the number of coversions based on your percentage, So, say you get 1000 visits per day and you experience a 1% conversion rate, thats 10 sales (1% of 1000) if you get 10000 with the same 1% conversion then thats 100 sales.

Or do you use the Sniper mehod, with lazer targeted traffic that is ready to buy, so the visits are alot less but the conversion rates are much higher so if you get 1000 visits you might get 25% conversion rate or 250 sales maybe. This method is far harder and very technical to implement.
